Huffy Electro-Light Kids Bike
Overview
While I did not have the pleasure of riding the new Electro-Light Kids Bike, my dear nephew certainly did. Privileged with a large loop for a driveway, Luke and I tested out the light-up bike from Huffy at all hours of the day, confirming that the LED lights are bright in the daytime and “sick!” at night, as Luke would put it.
The Electro-Light Kids Bike has colorful LED lights throughout the bike: on the handlebars, the frame of the bike itself, and the chainguard. There are five different lighting modes, which can be changed with a simple press of a button, and better yet, despite Luke being in his grow-2-inches-every-time-I-turn-around era, this bike will last him for years. The seat is height-adjustable, and the training wheels can be easily removed whenever he’s ready for it.
Huffy History
In 1887, George Huffman owned and operated Davis Sewing Machine Company during the heart of the Industrial Revolution. Bicycles were all the rage then, but he didn’t see them as just a fad, rather, a turning point in American transportation culture. In 1892, he adapted the sewing machine factory to produce bicycles, and by 1897, they were the largest producer of bicycles in the United States.
In 1924, George’s son, Horrace, rebranded the company to Huffman Manufacturing Company, and the company played a huge role in the 1930s revival of the American cycling industry. During World War II, Huffy created 4,000 military bikes for troops overseas.
In 1949, Huffy introduced the world’s first training wheels with the Convertible Bike. It was a huge hit! A few year later, Huffy created a battery-powered radio that combined gears and guitar riffs for a musical ride. In 1979, Huffy produced its 30 millionth bike, which lives in the Smithsonian Institution. 1984 saw Olympic cyclists take home the gold on Huffy bikes! The turn of the millennium saw The Green Machine, with large wheels and drifting capabilities. They sold a million of them by 2012! 2016 brought on the EZ Build Bikes for easy at-home assembly, and in 2020, Electric bikes arrived on the scene.
130 years in the making, Huffy has been a huge name in bikes, and they’ve done so by keeping a finger on the cultural pulse of America, constantly improving on the gold standards they’ve set.
