Forky Asks A Question

Forky Asks A Question is an animated television series based on the Toy Story franchise. Each short-form episode stars Forky, who was introduced in Toy Story 4. Forky became a toy after Bonnie created him, so he’s learning everything for the very first time, even some of the most basic things like friendship or a computer.

To answer his many questions, Forky invites a different toy each episode who is somewhat of an expert on the topic at hand.

  • What Is Money? Forky entrusts Hamm to explain the very complicated topic of money.
  • What Is A Friend? Forky befriends Bonnie’s mom’s mug, who he thinks is named, “What, No!”
  • What Is Art? The one and only Mr. Pricklepants gives Forky an acting lesson
  • What Is Time? Using the life and extinction of dinosaurs as an example, Rex explains the concept of time.
  • What Is Love? The senior toys, Melephant Brooks, Carl Reineroceros, and Chairol Burnett team up to explain the very complicatedly wonderful thing that we call love.
  • What is A Computer? Trixie tries to explain to Forky what exactly a computer is—and all the frustrations that come with modern technology.
  • What Is A Leader? Dolly attempts to take charge and teach through example what being a leader means. Forky learns the phrase, “That’s just the way the cookie crumbles.”
  • What Is A Pet? Officer Rib Tickles explains to Forky exactly what a pet is—probably in a little more depth than anybody wanted—by reminiscing about the time she was swallowed by one
  • What Is Cheese? Buttercup gets fed up with Forky and attempts to answer all of the questions he could possibly have in quick succession.
  • What Is Reading? The Peas in a Pod (& Mr. Spell) teach Forky about letter sounds and how, when put together, they form words

Each episode is less than five minutes and while they don’t always answer the title question, they’re always entertaining. Created, written, directed, and narrated by Bob Peterson and developed by Pete Docter, this single-season-ten-episode series has received positive reviews, with an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. It even won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Animated Program in 2020.
